6 Natural Remedies.

Posted on November 8, 2009 by adminNo Comments

Got these six natural remedies from Simple Mom.

1. Ginger
Ginger (or ginger root) is one of my most favorite spices. It has been used in Asian cooking for years, and has a wonderfully distinct taste and smell — it’s been used over the years to disguise the taste and smell of medicines.

2. Garlic
Garlic belongs to the onion family and is another root I use quite a bit in cooking. It has a strong taste when raw, but it gets mild and sweet on cooking. Garlic is known for its antibiotic properties, and is also a powerful antioxidant. Garlic helps control cholesterol, too.

3. Honey
The benefits of honey are known worldwide. It has been known to energize the body, boost immunity, help with cuts and bruises, and works wonderfully on coughs and colds.

4. Turmeric
Turmeric is a key ingredient for many Indian, Thai and Malay dishes. It is known to be a really effective antibiotic, due to its antiseptic properties.

5. Pepper
Pepper is a widely available spice, and it is known to stimulate taste buds and improve digestion. As with garlic, it is hard to use pepper directly, so it is best to incorporate pepper into cooking.

6. Cloves
Cloves are known for their antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, and even aphrodisiac properties. Traditionally, cloves were used to reduce bad breath.

Really helpful and informative list, isn’t it? I actually tried honey before for my kid for his frequent coughing allergy. However, he doesn’t like to take honey by the spoon. Garlic, on the other hand, is a staple in the house most especially for our garlic lemon pasta. For my dark circles though, the best under eye cream is what I badly need. ;)

Snowy Village Cakelet Pan.

The pan turns out six miniature cakes shaped like quaint cottages detailed with unique architectural features. Lined up in a row or arranged in a circle, the cakelets are ready for a snowy dusting of confectioners’ sugar. The cast-aluminum pan is highly durable and distributes heat evenly for perfect results.
Williams-Sonoma

Little things like this make me wish to learn how to bake. A similar pan with train design is also available and has been on my wishlist for quite some time now. I have a growing number of wishes as Christmas comes near, an Eagle Creek luggage included. I want a big bag that can hold all our valuables. Yeah, it is still a paranoia which resulted from the previous typhoon.

Five Ways to Eat Brown Rice.

Posted on November 5, 2009 by adminNo Comments

We have been eating brown rice for some time now. Although my son eats it, he still prefers the white rice and gets to have it when we eat out. Anyway, I am so happy to have discovered five other ways to serve brown rice. I have tried fried brown rice and it was good. I am planning to try the brown rice salad soon.

brown rice ni mommy.

1. With soy sauce – Plain brown rice, nutty and sweet, with a splash of soy sauce is a wonderful lunch. We don’t think good brown rice needs too much adornment.

2. In a veggie burger – Brown rice is a basic ingredient in most veggie burgers.

3. Fried with onions, ginger, and an egg. – Fried rice is better with brown rice, we think.

4. With squash and nuts – Yum!

5. In a salad – Brown rice, especially the long-grain drier variety, makes a wonderfully textured addition to green salads, like this mixed greens salad with dates, cashews, and chickpeas.

Kitchen Talk.

Posted on November 4, 2009 by adminNo Comments

I have a lot of things I want to do and I want to get for the kitchen. I am not a good cook. I only know the basics and only those people who love me can appreciate my cooking. ;) But still, I am dreaming of a really nice kitchen. Even if I can just have some glass tiles installed or maybe have a really nice storage, that will make me very happy. My dream kitchen is still a dream, and will not happen in the near future. So I just have to content myself with few little changes here and there.

Best Natural Remedies For Common Aches and Pains.

Posted on November 3, 2009 by adminNo Comments

Burns
So you bumped up against the stove again? Ouch. Rinse first with cold water, but then immediately apply aloe vera gel to the burn. For those of us who don’t have aloe in the house, slice a potato and rub its cool, soothing juices all over the burn. And honey, with its antibacterial properties, is also good topical ointment. If you can catch the burn immediately, mustard is also reportedly a great salve.

Rashes and Allergies
Prescription and OTC antihistamines can cause some serious side effects. Before you head for the strong stuff, try green tea, which contains compounds with antihistamine properties. You’ll need to drink 2-3 cups a day to get the full effect.

Acne and Sensitive Skin
First you really have to look at your lifestyle, because imbalances in your health can show up in your skin. But in the meantime, wash your face with oatmeal. It’s a gentle exfoliant and draws out oil and impurities.

For The Kitchen.

Something I plan to do in my kitchen. Since I can’t have yet the kitchen of my dreams, I might as well make the current one work for me. I plan to take advantage of the vacation and do a bit of organizing in there. I need to clean up some clutter to make some space for my juicer and coffee makers. And come Christmas, I hope DH gives me some buget for other kitchen gadgets that I want.
